Secrets Of Insider Tips And Facts About Barcelona For The Reckless Tourist

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Oh yes, that lovely time of day. Empty streets, full restaurants. Don’t expect shops to be open between 2pm and 5pm (some only close between 2pm and 4pm). However, we do feel the urge to demistify this urban legend: not everyone goes have a 3 hour nap in the middle of the afternoon. Long lunches accompanied by wine and followed by neverending cafe solos are usually taken place during this mid-afternoon break. If you travel through discount international airfare, you know what it means. We love it.

Travelling About Town

Taxis are cheap. Flabbergastingly cheap. If you don’t realize what “flabbergastingly” means… look it up. But understand that taxis are very cheap. Especially when shared with 3 other people. But don’t expect to discover available taxis on a Friday or Saturday night – they are impossible! Queues in Pl. Catalunya can range from 15 minutes to 2 hours on a Friday or Saturday night..

Buses are easy to use and get around. Nightbuses don’t run that frequently though. Getting the bus from the airport to Pl. Catalunya costs 3.65 euros and the average journey time is about 25 minutes.

The metro stations are HOT! In the summer, they are boiling hot. Girls should walk around in their bikini tops – that should be made a rule. But the metro itself has air conditioning and is usually on time. And everything is pretty much within half an hour reach. A 3 month pass for under-21 year olds costs 100 euros, which is excellent. And the pass works for bus and metro. For over 21 year olds it is 112 euros, so there is not much of a difference. Overall, if you travel through discount travel deal, it is cheap, reliable and hot. Boiling hot. And that’s all I have to say about that.

The Prostitutes

They are out there! In the heart of Barcelona, flooding the Ramblas (and not only) after 2am, totally transforming Barcelona from day to night. If you are a group of guys walking through the Ramblas, it is guaranteed that at least one of them will grab you and ask, very blatantly, if you want sex. Our advice: Run. The most likely thing is that they will go for your pocket to try and steal your wallet or mobile. Or they will take you somewhere dodgy and steal from you there. Either way, don’t do it. You will look like nothing but a traveler of a discount vacation package, and people will make fun of you. I understand I will!!

The Street Beer Sellers

There are dozens of Pakistani/Indian beer sellers around Bairro Gotico, Raval and the Ramblas. Remember: They are your friends, not your enemies. There is no reason to be afraid of the,. I have yet to hear a story of anyone getting robbed by a beer seller. They sell beers for 1 euro each and 5 euros for a pack of 6. If you realize how to talk to them, youll be able to bargain it down to 70cents a beer. They swear they are not part of a mafia. Yet they share beers and change constantly. The truth is out there…

Cigarettes And Tobacco

Since the first day of 2006, an “anti-smoking law” has been put in place by the Government. However, it doesn’t obligate any establishment to ban smoking. Instead, it gives them the option to select whether they want to ban smoking or not and notify the public with a banner outside the establishment. Needless to say, you can smoke pretty much everywhere. Cigarettes are cheaper in specialised tobacco shops (”Tabacs”). The only other place to buy cigarettes are from machines in bars and certain kiosks.

What To Pack When Touring

What To Pack When Traveling

What sort of suitcases, what packing methods? What know is what to pack! If you’re preparing for your trip, the perfect factor to do is to start a packing list.

What it is advisable placed on that list will rely on your vacation spot and your journey style. I imply, if you are going to a tropical country, what you’ll must pack shall be completely completely different from if you’re going to Antarctica…. although it would shock you that we would advocate a swimsuit in either case.

You’d at all times take a swimsuit to a tropical beach, however there are hot springs on Deception Island in the Antarctic Peninsula the place you’ll be able to swim… and who would not want bragging rights about swimming in Antarctica!

So are you going to be touring cities or going on safari; getting pampered at a spa or visiting a dude ranch? You may pack light in any case, you simply need to adjust your wardrobe. In case you’re going on a scuba diving trip and taking your individual equipment… effectively, you in all probability know what it’s essential to take… and that you simply will not be packing light!

It takes some planning to pack with at present’s security alerts, but should you can pack every little thing in carry-on baggage, you may avoid airline baggage fees.

For ladies, here is what I take…. some combination of 5 lengthy and short sleeved blouses depending on the climate of our destination. Two pairs of slacks and one skirt for dressing up up. A lightweight pull over sweater and an outer sweater. One nightgown, underwear for 5 days and a swimsuit. Two pairs of shoes and three or four pairs of socks.

For men… again, some mixture of five long and short sleeved shirts. Two pairs of long pants. Shorts if expecting warm weather. Pull over sweater. A swim suit. Underwear for 5 days. Two pairs of sneakers and three or 4 pairs of socks.

You actually don’t need many more garments than that. Who cares when you put on the same things over and over… you are on the move… you will never see most of these individuals again. Wash things out as you travel. Attempt to find fabrics that drip dry well.

What to pack beyond your garments? Prescription medications… sufficient for your journey and a few days extra. Deodorant, aspirin, antacids and cold tablets. Toothpaste and toothbrushes. Shampoo and necessary cosmetics.

Sunglasses and sunscreen. A wide brimmed hat if you can be in the sun, and an umbrella in case of rain. And insect repellent if needed.

A travel alarm clock is always useful. A small daypack can give you room to develop as soon as your arrive. Take a camera with plenty of batteries or a charger. Maybe binoculars. A curling iron for ladies, a razor for men…. and adaptors for those humorous foreign plugs.

We always advise to consider carefully before you carry loads of electronics. If you ‘re busy touring round, you could not have time to make use of that laptop computer much… and do you actually want to carry it? Check to see if your mobile phone even works the place you’re going…. or if it does, if you can afford to make use of it!

Deciding what to pack isn’t hard… most people need to focus on what NOT to pack. Make your packing list… then keep on with it. If there is something you actually do overlook to pack… you may probably get it there.

How You Can Be A Thoughtful Traveler

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Now more than ever we should all attempt to be thoughtful travelers. Traveling might be a trying experience these days with increased safety checks, baggage restrictions, and crowded planes. Impolite or obnoxious passengers just ensure it is more tedious for all of us.

We’ve mentioned all along that you ought to be patient and versatile and things will work out. However what are some of the things that we think you need to actually NOT do?

To start with don’t raise your voice or use obscenities. Many individuals suppose that the “squeaky wheel” would be the one which gets greased. Not true.

It’s usually considerate travelers who get the best help. The airline service personnel we all know give those squeaky wheels simply the service that they are entitled to and no more. Yelling in all probability will not get you a first-class seat assignment or get that baggage fee waived.

Definitely do not be foolish enough to raise your voice at security… that is certain to slow you down with more checks…. and slow the line down for everyone.

It is a little silly to threaten that you’ll never fly that airline again or keep in that resort again. The airline agents and lodge clerks have heard that all before. They do the best they can to help you, and you mustn’t be blaming them… and moreover, you nearly actually WILL fly that airline the following time you get a good airfare on them or keep in that lodge the following time you receive a great rate…. you aren’t fooling anyone. You are venting for the wrong causes, they usually’ll most likely want to help you even less because of it.

We should not want to tell you to not joke round about guns or bombs or explosives in underwear or anything in any respect like that. No one at any airport will probably be amused… they will call the police. Believe it or not… a few of this nonetheless happens! Have not they been reading the information?

Don’t drink too much. You know that is true if you’re driving, nonetheless it additionally applies everytime you’re flying. If the agent thinks you might be too inebriated to travel, they could deny you boarding. Flight attendants cease serving liquor to passengers who have had one too many. Generally it will get to be a problem.

My husband was once requested by a flight attendant if he would mind altering seats and letting one other lady sit next to me. The person sitting subsequent to her was intoxicated and making an attempt to make passes at her. Imagine his shock when he awoke to make another pass and located my hubby there!

Do not attempt to cut in line since you’re in a hurry. You loathe drivers that try this, and no one likes vacationers who do that. Considerate vacationers don’t leave their manners at home. Remember… “Do unto others…” In the event you simply behave like your mom taught you to, it’s going to make travel better for yourself and for all of your fellow travelers.

Getting Through Airport Security Quickly And Easily

Friday, March 26th, 2010

There are security check points in almost all transport terminals in the world these days. If you would like to get through those checks like the frequent flyer’s dothere are a couple of things to think about to make the process quicker and easier but plan ahead don’t try to do it all whilst stood in line.

Make sure you empty your pockets and place all coins etc in the bins provided. We all know now anything metallic will trigger the alarm so have things like belts with buckles, watches, bracelets etc ready to place in the bin or better still put in your hand baggage

Think about buying snacks and drinks etc after you have cleared the security and this is particualry important with young children

In the United States, you have to take your shoes off. Slip-on shoes will come off and go on faster. Zippers and laces will slow you down… have your shoes untied or unzipped before you get to the front of the line. (Take care when you put them back on that you don’t trip before you’re put back together!)

Have your one quart/one liter plastic bag with your liquids, creams and gels out of your carry-on, and put it in a bin. Remember each liquid should be 3 ounces/100 ml or less, right? There shouldn’t be any loose liquids in your carry-on bag. If you have “medically necessary” liquids or baby food, in most countries, those can be outside of your plastic bag allowance, but you must notify a screening officer.

You are now approaching the screening area and it is a good idea to approach it in an organized manner.

First put your shoes, coat and your carry-on “personal item” (usually your smaller bag) in the first bin. They will come through the x-ray first, and you can be putting them back on while you’re waiting for your other items to be screened.

If you’re carrying a computer, put your carry-on bag for your laptop in the bin ahead of your computer, then when your computer comes through, you’ll have the laptop bag ready to slip the computer right into it.

nearly half of all security checkpoint bottlenecks are caused by people putting themselves together after screening without moving to the side…. don’t let this be you!Airports report that nearly all bottlenecks which cause people to be delayed clearing security are cause by people stopping to put their shoes on etc so if you need more time please ensure you move to the side where you will normally find chairs and this will speed the whole process up no end.

You’re going to read this, and next time you travel, you’re going to move through that security checkpoint with a plan… and they’ll think you’re an expert traveler no matter whether you travel often or not.

How To Get To And From The Airport

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

What are the considerations of going to and from the airport? You’ve been busy planning a trip, figuring what to pack.

You might have hotel reservations, museum reservations as well as rental car reservations…. but before you leave on your trip, you have to get to the airport, and when you arrive in your destination, you must get from the airport to the city…. but HOW?
You can actually research this in advance if you like. Put “getting to and from the airport” into your search engine, and you will find pages telling you the choices for getting to and from almost any airport in the world.

Most major airports offer several options. You will have taxis and private limos. Usually there will be buses, sometimes special “airporter” buses that take you to a downtown central location, sometimes hotel buses that will drop you off right at your hotel. You may be able to take a train or perhaps a subway into town.

Virtually all airports will inform you to beware of “unofficial” taxis. Official taxis may use meters or they may have a set rate for airport runs. Check to see what you ought to be paying before you jump into any vehicle. At some airports, there could be a counter where you pre-pay for a taxi.

Buses may require tickets purchased at a desk inside the airport… others may let you pay the driver.

For those who have made a hotel reservation, check to see if they have a free or inexpensive courtesy shuttle for getting to and from the airport.

In case you haven’t researched this beforehand on the internet… or even if you’ve done a small amount of research…. you can always ask at the tourist help desk you will find in most major airports. The staff there can generally tell you the lowest priced and/or fastest way to get into town.

Remember what’s most important to you. Buses are cheap, but could possibly get stuck in traffic. The subway will whisk you to town, but may require a walk to your hotel. A taxi might seem like the most expensive choice, but a shared taxi might not be as expensive as you think and can whisk you right to the front door.

Then you’ll find the fun ways of getting to and from the airport… in exceptional cases. In Venice, you might take a water bus or water taxi from the airport. There is even a water shuttle or water taxi to take you to the airport in Boston!
I think the most exotic transportation we had getting to and from the airport was when we flew into Tiger Tops in Nepal… and saw elephants waiting to take us to the lodge!

Of course if you are on a tour, you do not have to worry about this… your tour company should have your guide or a representative at the airport to meet you.

If this all sounds confusing… it’s not. Just look around and ask questions at the airport or at your hotel desk. There will be a concierge or an information desk to assist you.

Tourist Planner – Kerala Holidays

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Vacations turn out to be hectic and lacking in experience when not planed or guided optimally.  So how can a trip to kerala be planed so as to make an amazing memory out of your money and time.

View a few answers from different tourist who have been to kerala:

Name: Kevin (Australia)

It would save you time & money if you could fly to Trivandrum and exit from Cochin (Kochi) or Vise Versa. Actually I would Hire a car and driver to Cochin – Thrissur – Munnar – Periyar – Backwaters (Allepey or Kumarakom) and then catch train down to Trivandrum and spend a few days relaxing on the beach at Kovalam before returning home. You could get off train at Varkalla if you wish for a day or so and continue to Trivandrum.

Hiring your own car & driver is very advantageous, as the driver will be with you all of the time, you
can stop where and when you want and he’ll show you around the various sightseeing spots you visit.

Name: Joe rich (Paris)

We are just back from a 2 weeks trip to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The itinerary suggestions from other members sound good. We didn’t go to Kovalam but did Varkala instead which was great for a few days’ rest. We had a marvelous driver who made our holiday such a memorable one. A couple of addresses that I would recommend the Deshadan in Varkala, mother Tree B&B in Fort Cochin
Everything is so easy in Kerala. I did a lot of planning for our trip but found that with a good driver, you get to see everything and they have good addresses, although I suppose February would be high season, so better book in advance.

So plan your trip wisely or contact the experts to do it for you at Kerala Travel Cabs
