Prices for airline tickets can fluctuate wildly, even over very short time periods. The price you are quoted in the morning could be halved later in the day, or it may have doubled! Airline ticket prices are generally based upon three key factors: demand, competition and availability.

This basically means that high demand and low availability routes will tend to be more pricy than less popular destinations. It also means that if demand is low, and there is a chance that airline seats will be empty, then the prices will fall.

Start Your Research Early

If you really want to save some cash always start your search as early as possible. And by ‘early’ I don’t mean just a week before you are planning to travel, I mean at least one month in advance. Although there is a chance that ticket prices will fall they tend to increase so searching early is always a good idea.

Shop Around

Always take some time to shop around the various airlines, either by telephoning or by using their websites. Keep notes and play one airline off against another by telling them the best prices that you have been quoted so far. To get the best possible price quotes tell the airlines that you are flexible over your departure date and time. Don’t give specific dates, just ask for the lowest price for your destination.

Make Use of Discounts

Airline discounts can be misleading at times so be certain to check the details. Most discounted flight tickets come with a whole load of conditions such as restrictions on travel dates and times. To get the best discount you will generally have to book your flight at least three or even four weeks in advance. It is worth discussing discount opportunities with specific airlines so that you are aware of their requirements and can take full advantage of their discount offers.

Buy Two Way Tickets

Be sure to buy return tickets rather than buy separate one way tickets for your return journey.

Use Your Age

If you’re a student be certain to look out for student discounts. And if you are a pensioner you may find that there are specific discounts for senior travelers so its worth asking the airline when conducting your research.

I hope that you will be able to save some cash by following some of my suggestions.

For more travel savings I recommend booking your Birmingham Airport Parking, Heathrow Parking or Gatwick Parking as far in advance as possible.
